I always have such a hard time reviewing Dara Horn's novels because they're so weird and unsettling, but I absolutely love them.

Eternal Life explores a lot of questions about life, death, purpose, and meaning. Fair warning: Horn doesn't like to answer the questions she poses. She likes to leave her readers thinking them over long after they've closed the book.

Trying to inspire myself to work on my novel. I had a whole plan about writing 1000 words a week this year, but then COVID happened and made all our routines screwy. The kids started going to part-time preschool last month, but they've already missed out on two weeks because of COVID related incidents. So I've lost the momentum I had, and it's really hard to commit to writing when the kids might need me as soon as I type the first word.

Shanghai girls was so good, but it ended on a total cliffhanger! So of course I had to dive right into the sequel, which focuses less on the two sisters and more on the daughter they've raised together.

When you were growing up, who took care of you when you were sick? My mom did for the most part, but my dad always made us what we called "Daddy tea": green tea with lemon and honey.

I got whatever the kids had, and I got it bad. But I have a good book, a cup of "Daddy tea" (is it still Daddy tea if I made it myself?), and my husband is taking care of the kids.

Thanks to a few recommendations, I chose Shanghai Girls for my next read. I'm already totally engrossed (and halfway through), but it's very sad. Really feels like Lisa See has done her research and is opening my eyes to a whole new history and culture. The oppression that Chinese women endured is absolutely horrifying. And immigrants to America.... 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ I feel so ashamed for that part of our nation's history.
